What is Aragon?
Aragon is a project built on top of Ethereum that paves the way for 21st decentralized organizations by using blockchain technology. It consists of Aragon client, a decentralized application (dApp) and Aragon Network, a decentralized organization (DAO), which together give people all the necessary means to create and manage any kind of unstoppable, borderless organizations on the blockchain.
Aragon client, Aragon Network and ANT (Aragon Network Token)
Aragon client allow its users to create and effectively manage their organizations, with many features enabled on the client such as decision-making by voting, making payments etc. It makes possible to manage an organization on the blockchain in terms of technical aspect, but more importantly Aragon brings transparency to the organizations, and give people the freedom to run their organizations.
Surely, one can’t simply run a company on the blockchain, the network it is created on and the company itself would be decentralized, transparent and borderless but then how will the possible issues of the participants be resolved?
Here, Aragon Network, governed by the community, act as a digital jurisdiction to make the network run smoothly. The Aragon Network Token (ANT) will be at the center of this governance process, which will also be used as collateral for agreements in the network.
How to create a decentralized organization on Ethereum with Aragon
Aragon is a dApp (decentralized application), so you need MetaMask to interact with it on the browser. Log in to your MetaMask or install it if you haven’t already. After that, you can go to this page to create your organization.
To create an organization, you need at least 0.1 ETH in your MetaMask wallet. Organizations can be deployed on Ethereum testnet (Rinkeby), so if you don’t want to use real funds, you can try it on the testnet by changing the network in MetaMask to Rinkeby.
Though lots of audits done on the smart contracts before deploying it on the mainnet, it is hard for developers to say Aragon is free of bugs that would put your money at risk, so it is recommend not to place large amounts of funds in the organizations now.
